About
California’s BakersÂfield College was founded in 1931, and it is one of the oldest colleges of the United States in which teaching has been contiÂnuous. More than 20,000 students are being educated on the 62-hectar main campus in the northeast of BakersÂfield.
The college had its 2,800-square-metre audiÂtoÂrium refurÂbished through a commuÂnity bond programme.
IBI Group ArchiÂtecÂture PlanÂning was tasked with redeÂsigÂning the entire site and turning it into a centre of performing arts. The work involved a redeÂsign of the entrance, recepÂtion, and study rooms, as well as the 450 theatre seats.
HAVER ArchiÂtecÂtural Mesh was used for the shading.
The task
IBI Group therÂeÂfore had to find a durable mateÂrial for shading that would resist weather impact, guarantee maximum air circuÂlaÂtion, and, of course, offer good sun protecÂtion.
The solution
The stainÂless-steel mesh elements were produced espeÂciÂally for BakersÂfield College. Each one of the twelve mesh panels features a fastening system consisÂting of a clamÂping edge, clevis screw, and a presÂsure spring, and each panel was laid via three to four deflecÂtions, so that the mesh does not frame the stage vertiÂcally but with a slight curvature.
We did this.
